Job Description

Job Title: PCB DESIGN ENGINEER
Responsible to: PCB PHYSICAL LEAD DESIGN ENGINEER
Department (s): ENGINEERING

JOB PURPOSE

Basically, this role requires working within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to design high quality, high speed, low noise analogue and RF printed circuit boards in accordance with engineering, mechanical and company requirements and processes.

Moreover, this role will also be to develop schematics and then produce PCB layouts and manufacturing/assembly data packages for a variety of products.

Similarly, the role will require interaction with an in-house assembly team with a view to delivering boards with a high level of quality and manufacturability in a timely manner.

ROLE DIMENSIONS

Firstly, Working as part of a team, under the direction of the PCB Physical Lead Design Engineer.

Likewise, Establish effective working relationships with various departments including; sales and marketing, operations, production and accounts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Generally, Design single-sided, double-sided and multi-layered PCB’s using industry-standard techniques, ensuring consideration for DFM/DFT has been made.
• Nevertheless, Responsible for completing PCB designs in accordance with agreed project time, cost, quality and performance requirements.
• Subsequently, Working with Electronic/ RF Engineers to develop Schematics. CAD library administration including symbol, footprint generation and database administration.
• Similarly, Creation and maintenance of enterprise data pack Creation of 3D models and assemblies from 2D layouts.
• Liaising closely with other engineers to create robust designs.
• Jointly, Liaising with the manufacturing team for procurement and transfer of documentation Contributing to continual process improvement within the PCB layout function.
• Moreover, Should Know Operations in Eagle, OrCad and Altium. More knowledge in Eagle is Preferred.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE

• Qualifications and Experience Essential (E) or Desirable (D) HR Office Use Only.
• Extensive knowledge in using Eagle, Allegro and Altium schematic capture and layout creation layout tools E.
• Experience with ERP systems, BOM structures E.
• PCB layout experience within a design role E.
• Degree or equivalent within an Engineering/Electronics based subject D.
• Knowledge of PCB manufacturing process D.
• Experience in RF circuit layout and laminates D.
• Manipulation of Gerber files D

Skills

• SMPS (switch mode power supplies) – knowledge of layout techniques D.
• Experience of mains potential voltage for PCB design D.
• Currents of up to 30A for PCB design D.
• RF design transmission line techniques for PCB design D.
• High-speed layout techniques for differential pair and serial communications D.
